Oil & LPG Support

Oil & LPG Support

This year has seen the cost of some fossil fuels almost double, mostly due to conflict in the Middle East that escalated in early Spring. This is not the first time in recent memory that the cost of gas and oil has sky-rocketed due to conflict across the globe, as we saw a high price spike in early 2022, when Russia invaded Ukraine.

Gas and oil are finite resources so, if there is a disruption to global supply due to war, or difficulty accessing or finding a reserve, it has a very quick effect on the prices householders pay for their supply.

Currently, it is only mains supplied energy (electricity and mains gas) that is regulated by Ofgem, and so LPG and oil suppliers can competitively price their goods as the market rises and falls. This means that actual prices from some suppliers were over triple what the price was just a few months ago.

In response to the price hikes, the UK government announced additional funding to the new Crisis & Resilience Fund, specifically to support vulnerable residents who use LPG or oil as their main heating source. Warwickshire and Worcestershire County Councils have now opened this fund, and residents are able to apply for this support through our website.

Unfortunately, due to the nature of fossils fuels, it can be hard to predict future costs and potential disruption, so moving to renewable energy for your heating could help you regulate your heating costs and ‘future-proof’ your home against potential disruption or supply issues. Moving to renewable technologies can be expensive, but there is funding available. We also have a variety of resources on our website to help answer some of the initial questions around renewable technologies, and have qualified retrofit advisors ready to answer your call.
