September Case Study
Clive and Adedayo have lived in their home for over 14 years: their children were growing up in their home. Unfortunately, after more than a decade, their heating wasn’t working as it used to. Their boiler hadn’t been replaced since they moved in and, now Clive had lost his job, they were starting to worry about next winter.
Luckily, an Act on Energy outreach officer was attending their local GP surgery to offer on-the-spot advice. Clive opened up and explained his situation and how much he and his wife were struggling financially. Our outreach officer told them about a fund that they may be eligible for, and passed their case over to the project officer, Hanna, to help them with their application.
Hanna contacted the client to discuss their situation further and explained that they were eligible for support through Coventry City Council’s Disabled Facilities Grant, due to Clive’s cardiovascular complications, and helped them fill out the application form and collect the relevant evidence. Within a couple of weeks, the application had been approved, and a contractor visited the property to assess the work that could be done.
Hanna talked Clive through the findings, and he was delighted to hear the amount of work that was being offered. Clive and Adedayo received a new boiler install as well as all new heating controls, radiators and a top-up on their loft insulation to ensure that the heat from their home wasn’t going to waste. With over £7000 worth of work, it would have taken Clive and Adedayo years of saving to be able to get the work done.
After the install, Clive and Adedayo were advised on the best way to use their new heating system and how to programme the thermostat. They couldn’t believe the difference it made to their home. Installing a new boiler meant that their home was warmer and reduced their heating bill at the same time. The loft insulation reduced the heat loss in their house, which helped keep the bedrooms toasty without needing to turn the heating up during cold spells. As the late summer nights started to get longer and colder, Clive and Adedayo weren’t worried about the temperature dropping, because they knew that they have a warm space to call their own.
