The price cap will rise in October
We know that many people are already struggling to pay their energy bills. And today’s announcement from the energy regulator Ofgem about the new price cap – £3,549 for typical use from 1 October will add to that worry.
If you are worried about your energy bills, be assured you are not alone.
But taking action sooner rather than later is important.
The first thing to do is to call your energy supplier. They understand the pressure that people are under – and they can only help if they know you need help. Ofgem says: “suppliers must offer payment plans you can afford and you can ask for ‘emergency credit’ if you use a prepay meter and can’t top up”.
There are also actions we can all do around our home to help reduce heat loss, because the less we use the more money we’ll save. Check out our website Quick Tips to save money for ideas of things you can do for free. They may seem like tiny measures, but they will all help.
