Warm Front
In order to make UK homes more energy efficient, the government has set up a scheme called Warm Front. It is designed to help people who may not be able to afford home improvements to increase energy efficiency and save on fuel bills.
Warm Front is a government scheme which helps those who need heating and insulation. The scheme is available in England and there are similar schemes in Scotland and Wales.
Warm Front is a scheme that gives financial help to those in receipt of a means tested benefit (see below)who need heating and/or insulation.
Grants range up to £3500 for gas central heating and insulation and up to £6000 for oil central heating systems.
In order to qualify, households must:
- Receive one of a range of means-tested benefits AND
- Be vulnerable on grounds of age (over 60 or with a child under 5) or with some form of disability AND
- Either own or privately rent a home with a particularly low energy efficiency rating of below SAP 55 (confirmed by survey)
Specifically a householder or their spouse must be in receipt of one of the following:
- Pension Credit (Guaranteed Credit or Savings Credit)
- Income Support or Income-based Jobseeker's Allowance and have any of the following:
- Has parental responsibility for a child under 5 who ordinarily resides with that person
- Child Tax Credit (which must include a disability or severe disability element for a child or young person)
- Disabled Child Premium
- Disability Premium (enhanced disability or severe disability element premium)
- Pensioner Premium (higher pensioner premium or enhanced pensioner premium)
- Income-related Employment and Support Allowance (ESA) which includes a work related activity or support component and have any of the following:
- Has parental responsibility for a child under 5 who ordinarily resides with that person
- Child Tax Credit (which must include a disability or severe disability element for a child or young person)
- Disabled Child Premium
- Disability Premium (enhanced disability or severe disability element premium)
- Pensioner Premium (higher pensioner premium or enhanced pensioner premium)
