Heating Contractor

If you have to replace your heating and hot water system it is essential to ensure you install an energy efficient boiler or system. Heating and hot water can be supplied through traditional forms of energy such as electric, gas, coal and oil but today you can also heat your home and produce hot water from renewable energy such as the sun, the air and the earth.

It has been widely publicised that there are many “cowboy” businesses who not only recommend the wrong products but who are also not fully trained to install various systems. There are a few places you can start to find a heating contractor who will provide a good and reliable service.

There is The Heating Contractors Register and The Association of Heating and Plumbing Contractors. The latter has stringent requirements in place for members, in order to ensure the best possible service to consumers.

Three things to remember before choosing a heating contractor:

  • Since 2005 it has been a legal requirement to install a high efficiency boiler if you need to replace your gas or oil boiler
  • All installers must be CORGI Registered in order to fit a gas boiler or OFTEC approved to fit an oil boiler
  • You should receive a certificate once the system has been fitted and checked

You will be able to find more information on:

  • Local council website
  • The Energy Saving Trust
  • CORGI (Council for Registered Gas Installers)
  • OFTEC (Oil Firing Technical Association)
  • Boiler Efficiency Database
