Energy Efficiency Assessor

In order to obtain an Energy Performance Certificate for your home, you will need to engage the services of an accredited assessor. All homes are different and so the assessor will need to perform a full survey of your home in order to decide on the energy rating.

Much of the focus is on energy and heating. This is where most of our CO2 emissions come from in our homes and in order to reduce the impact on the atmosphere the more efficient your home is and the less carbon is released into the atmosphere. The additional benefit to an energy efficient home is that money is saved on fuel bills.

With the threat of a 60% rise in fuel bills before the winter of 2008, ensuring your home is energy efficient is going to be critical in purchasers or potential tenant's decision making.

Assessors will provide you with a certificate for your home based on the following criteria:

The Environmental Impact
How much C02 is being released into the atmosphere from your home, particularly from your heating, lighting and hot water system.

Energy Efficiency Rating
How energy efficient your home is, for example a rating on your insulation, lighting, heating and boiler system. The building as a whole is rated not simply the appliances inside it.

The age, size and location of your home will also be taken into account so that tailored recommendations can be given with regard to your home specifically. For example if you live in a Grade II listed building, installing double or triple glazing may not be an available option to you.

Unfortunately, at the moment the average house in the UK receives a rating from D-G, however new build properties should have a higher rating because of the new construction standards in place.

You must use an approved energy assessor for your home and a list of UK wide companies and individuals providing this service can be found at the Landmark Information Website.

Act on Energy employs registered energy assessors who can provide you with an EPC for your home. Call us for a quote on 0800 988 2881.
