Energy Company Obligation (ECO)

Energy suppliers are required by the Government to financially support and promote home energy savings and they currently do this by subsidising energy saving improvements. After 2012 this is likely to change from the existing system (which is based on carbon saving targets) to supporting those who need the most help either because of their personal circumstances or because their property is difficult and costly to improve.

The Energy Company Obligation will also support the Green Deal by enabling improvements that are worth doing to be installed even if they don't fall within the proposed financing system and is likely to be in the form of a full or partial grant.
